Domestic Cook Description

A Household/Domestic Cook is responsible for food preparation and kitchen/kitchen supplies management. A Private Cook helps plan and prepare all meals for their Employer family (and perhaps other domestic staff too, depending on the size of the household staff); organize and clean up the kitchen, and shop for all food and kitchen supplies.

A Domestic Cook’s responsibilities also typically include food preparation for parties, holiday meals, and special functions. Household Cooks are generally skilled in making a variety of dishes to meet specific Employer preferences. A Personal Cook can also plan and prepare a menu ranging from family-style, to cuisine-specific (e.g., Kosher, vegetarian, etc.), depending on your needs. (Please note that we also provide Private Chefs; these professionals are typically more skilled and experienced than Domestic Cooks, and they thus have higher salary requirements).

It is important to note that Household Cooks often have multiple roles at a residence. For example, Housekeeper Cooks are typically responsible for cooking and the kitchen, and they also perform light housekeeping. Nanny Cooks perform cooking and kitchen management at a residence, and they also provide light nanny help for their employer family. Some Domestic Cooks are also required to drive, as needed, by the Employer. It is common for Domestic Cooks to be live-in or live-out staff members.

A Domestic Cook’s salary depends on your location, job requirements, and the experience of the Cook Candidate. Benefits, perks, and other compensation also affect salary requirements.
