Butler Description

A Butler is usually responsible for a single residence. He or she maintains the household and supervises domestic staff to make sure that all duties are fulfilled.  At large residences, the house is sometimes divided into departments with the Butler in charge of the dining room, wine cellar, pantry, etc. A Butler is often a senior domestic staff member, and he or she may also provide chauffeur services.

In certain residences in which the Butler is the most senior domestic professional, titles such as Majordomo, Butler Administrator, Staff Manager, Chief of Staff, Staff Captain, and Head of Household Staff are sometimes given.

A Butler’s responsibilities generally include: ordering household supplies; setting and serving a formal table; caring for the silver, china, and crystal; greeting and seeing off family members and guests; and overseeing dinner parties as well as other functions held in the residence. Often, Butlers have a good working knowledge of wines and they are able to effectively use a computer.

Salary for a Butler depends on your location, the particular job requirements, and the level of experience of the Butler Candidate. Benefits, perks, and other forms of compensation provided by the Employer also affect salary requirements.
